Video has been discovered apparently showing a group of soldiers from the Syrian army announcing their defection, and saying they will "shake Assad's rule".
The footage, which cannot be independently verified, emerged as the Syrian army began an operation in the central city of al-Rastan, the site of protests in recent months.
In the footage, the man at the centre identifies himself as "Captain Youssef Hammoud from the ranks of the Fifth Unit, Brigade 15".
