ACT NOW to stop Bashar #Assad's killing machine in #Syria

Announcements

clipped from article:
SAC is urging all freedom supporters and people of conscience to act today to stop the slaughter of the Syrian people by the forces of Bashar Assad. If enough people take these actions, we can have a tremendous impact to stop the killing of innocent Syrians by their repressive government.

The leader of the Arab League's observer mission in Syria, Sudanese general Mustafa al-Dabi (a military commander responsible for atrocities in Darfur), described the situation in Homs as "reassuring," despite video footage showing his monitors witnessing heavy gunfire and civilian casualties.

Please take 10 minutes today to send a few emails or make a few phone calls. Here are the details:

1. Contact the Arab League and ask them to:
Refer the Arab League plan to the UN to adopt and take the necessary measures to implement the plan to ensure the withdrawal of Assad's military from towns and residential districts, a halt to violence against civilians and the release of all detainees.
Increase pressure on the Syrian government to ensure the safety of civilian protesters.
Support the implementation of safety zones and humanitarian corridors to protect civilians.
You can send the Arab League an email at observation.syria@las.int or call them at +2-02-25749879.

2. Contact the White House and ask the Obama administration to:
Issue a strong condemnation of the ongoing massacres in Syria, specially the escalation in Homs.
Pressure the UN Security Council to adopt the Arab League plan and send international observers to the besieged cities in Syria.
Pressure the UN to condemn the Syrian regime's action and to refer Assad and others who are complicit in his crimes to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to be tried for crimes against humanity.
You can send the Obama administration an email athttp://www.whitehouse.gov/contact or call 202-456-1111.

Feel free to use the letter below if you wish.

Sample letter:

Dear President Obama,

I am writing to express my deep concern about the situation in Syria, and to ask for serious measures to be taken against the Syrian regime. The tyrannical regime of Bashar Assad has been killing peaceful demonstrators for more than nine months.

To date, Assad's "security" forces have killed more than 5,000 people, injured more than 27,000, and arrested more than 100,000. Many Syrians have taken refuge in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. This situation is clear evidence that Bashar Assad is unfit to govern and must leave now.

I therefore respectfully ask that you:
Issue a strong condemnation of the ongoing massacres in Syria, specially the escalation in Homs.
Pressure the UN Security Council to adopt the Arab League plan and send international observers to the besieged cities in Syria.
Pressure the UN to condemn the Syrian regime's action and to refer Assad and others who are complicit in his crimes to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to be tried for crimes against humanity.
Sincerely,
