The UN Human Rights Council has condemned Syria">Syria “gross violations” of humanity following evidence security forces killed and tortured dissidents, urging needfully tougher international sanctions against Syria">Syria.
U.N. rights chief had called earlier Friday for the Security Council to refer Syria">Syria to the International Criminal Court over alleged crimes against humanity committed by government forces.
The resolution approved by the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva adds to pressure on President Bashar Assad's increasingly isolated government, which has faced multiple rounds of sanctions for its violent crackdown on an 8-month-old uprising. [ read more at link]
