BEIRUT (AP) — The Syrian military has held war games that included test-firing of missiles and air force and ground troop operations “similar to a real battle,” state-run media reported Monday — a show of force as Damascus defies pressures over its deadly crackdown on regime opponents.

Syria is under both Arab and international pressure to end its crackdown on an eight-month uprising against President Bashar Assad’s regime that the U.N. says has killed more than 4,000 people.

The maneuvers, which state TV said took place over the weekend, came as Syria said it was still negotiating with the Arab League over the bloc’s request to send observers into the country. Tightening sanctions by Arab and other nations have failed to halt the crackdown on anti-government protesters.

Syria’s military conducts war game every year but these maneuvers were of a higher-level, combining missile tests, the air force and ground troops.

State TV said the exercise was meant to test “the capabilities and the readiness of missile systems to respond to any possible aggression.”

I saw those posts earlier saying that Assad notifies leaders that he is testing missiles now, and I already know BY NOW, Assad is a pathological liar, and "literally" "everything" that comes out of his mouth is a #LIE. I knew he was not testing missiles, but firing missiles, how stupid does he really think the world is, give me a break! #AssadTheAssHole ... sorry but I must express my rage somehow. Thank you Lord, sorry for cursing, again. ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. Yes I do have a life, but I have not been able to attend to it because there is a child killing monster with demons running the streets killing children and civilians, and that is NOT something the world should tolerate!

I don't see how people can go Christmas shopping, the very idea makes me sick. Instead we should be embracing compassion!!! Isn't that what's really all about?

People talk about what would Jesus do? Go shopping or help people? Come on, is that really Like-Christ? #NOT ... how about thinking about the orphans, widows, and prisoners of war, who are being tortured because they refuse to bow down to anyone but God? ..victims of war crimes!

...The world is another shame. I just don't know how people can ignore atrocities committed against human beings every single day by the same criminals and think "someone else should take care of it" because compassion is not convenient right now.

Compassion is never convenient, that's why it is compassion. Oh .. sigh:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: never mind.

Amen .. rambling doesn't help Syria, but it helps me not run out into the street and to start screaming at people. hmm, now I 'know why' people do that! #Frustrated with the #Shameless #SleepingWorld
